Our Heritage
Until its acquisition in November, 2007, URS Corporation's Washington Division was Washington Group International, and was comprised of several heritage companies including Morrison-Knudsen Company, Washington Construction Company, Westinghouse Government Services, and Raytheon Engineers & Constructors.
History Highlights:
1912 - Morris Knudsen and Harry Morrison formed Morrison-Knudsen Company, an organization that grew into an internationally recognized powerhouse for engineering, mining, civil, and industrial construction. Its marquee accomplishments include some of the world’s most notable projects as well as industry innovations such as development of the joint-venture concept and fast-track engineering and construction techniques.
1964 – Dennis Washington founded Washington Construction Company in Montana and guided that company to the top of the regional civil construction market, ultimately expanding into mining and industrial construction.
1996 - Washington Construction Company and Morrison Knudsen Corporation merged to form a company whose global capabilities spanned five major markets: infrastructure, mining, industrial/process, environment, and power.
1999 - The company acquired Westinghouse Government Services Company LLC, a science and technology services leader who brought U.S. Department of Energy hazardous-facilities management and operations capabilities, technology evaluation and application expertise, and the world’s largest staff of nuclear safety analysts.
2000 - The company changed its name to Washington Group International and further expanded its market leadership by acquiring Raytheon Engineers & Constructors, a global leader in chemical demilitarization and power facility development.
2007 - Washington Group International was acquired by URS Corporation, one of the largest engineering design services firms in the United States. Today, we are the Washington Division of URS, providing leading engineering, construction, and management solutions to businesses and governments worldwide.
