Decontamination & Decommissioning
We have a rich history in government and commercial start-to-finish decontamination and decommissioning—from engineering studies to the full dismantling of radioactive structures.
To date, we have worked on more than 40 decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) assignments at commercial nuclear plants, research and test reactors, and at government production sites and laboratories. Many of these facilities have been highly contaminated and contained significant inventories of nuclear materials.
Among our highlights:
- In 1984, we participated in the first-ever nuclear power plant decommission and demolition at the nation’s first commercial nuclear plant at Shippingport, Pennsylvania, returning the site to a greenfield.
- We continue to meet the challenges brought on by an aging reactor fleet and the Department of Energy's accelerated clean up and closure schedule.
- As a leader in regulatory-complaint facility closures, we use state-of-the-art technology to turn liabilities into federally approved closures.
- Our use of the Integrated Safety Management System throughout the life cycle of the project protects our workers, reduces risk and reduces closure costs.
