Mining Projects

Jamaica Bauxite Mining
Jamaica Bauxite Mining

We are working under contracts to mine one-third of Jamaica's annual bauxite production.

APEX Silver-Zinc Mine
APEX Silver-Zinc Mine

We are the contractor at the world's largest silver mine in Bolivia.

Imouraren Uranium Project
Imouraren Uranium Project

We are providing engineering services for a worldwide leader in the uranium mining and production industries.

Agrium Kapuskasing Phosphate Mine
Agrium Kapuskasing Phosphate Mine

This mine, where temperatures can fall to - 56° Celsius, produces some of the highest-grade phosphate ore in the world.

MIBRAG Lignite Mining
MIBRAG Lignite Mining

We have been mining lignite at this site for more than 10 years and hold a 50-percent equity position.

Energy Fuels - Uranium

Our participation in the uranium industry dates back to the original pilot plants designed and built in the late 1930s on the Colorado Plateau. We also designed and constructed of facilities for Union Carbide to produce U3O8, UO2, and UF4 for the Manhattan Project.

We have served as the prime contractor responsible for the design engineering and construction of a total of 11 new uranium mills and have provided expansion services for more than 20 separate projects.

We have been a leader in providing services throughout the uranium cycle—from mining through disposal and deactivation:

  • Environmental services
  • Engineering design
  • Procurement
  • Construction services for mines and facilities.
  • Mine planning and operations
  • Cleanup
  • Conversion of weapons-grade uranium for energy generation
  • Demilitarization, for both U.S. military clients as well as international clients

Imouraren Uranium Project
North Niger, Africa

AREVA, a worldwide leader in the uranium mining and production industries,
is performing a feasibility study for developing the Imouraren Uranium deposit
located in Niger, Africa.

We are providing engineering services including the tailings design, project review, establishment of plant requirements, estimating and cost analysis, procurement, and execution plan.

Our work is focused on the ore treatment plant, including associated laboratories, sulfuric acid production, reagent storage, disposal of tailings, and evaporation areas as well as the production area maintenance facilities.

The treatment plant will use a conventional process and heap leaching to produce a total of 5,000 tons per year of uranium. Project start-up is planned for 2010 with the life of the mine projected to be 20- 30 years.

Gulf Mineral Resources
Mariano Lake Project-New Mexico

We performed design engineering, procurement and construction for a uranium mill using an ion exchange system for recovery of uranium from mine waters. We overcame unique hydraulic problems through creative equipment design.

Conoco Inc.
Hebbronville, Texas

This plant, consisting of solution polishing; uranium recovery by ion exchange; stripping; precipitation of uranyl peroxide; and product handling, was designed to recover uranium from 570 in-situ leach solution.

Processing facilities include alkaline leaching, resin columns for ion exchange, in-place resin elution, peroxide precipitation, and belt filtration of yellowcake prior to loading into a highway transport trailer.

Plastic-lined chemical makeup and process surge/storage ponds along with a deepwell disposal system ensure zero discharge to adjoining properties. An electrodialysis circuit is included for wellfield restoration.

Our responsibilities included:

  • Process and economic studies
  • Preliminary engineering
  • Design and detail engineering,
  • Procurement
  • Construction management
