About Industrial Minerals
From the sub-zero temperatures of northern Ontario, Canada, to the tropical heat of Jamaica, we provide vast experience in the industrial minerals market.
Among the minerals we mine:
- Bauxite
- Phosphate
- Potash
- Aggregates
Wherever we work, we are committed to a adhering to best practice standards as well as local laws and regulations. We operate our projects in a safe, environmentally responsible and culturally sensitive manner. We take pride in maintaining positive community relations and embedding a culture of safety that extends beyond the boundaries of our projects.
Experience Highlights
- WINDALCO Bauxite Mining
We are working under two mining contracts for Jamaican alumina producer West Indies Alumina Company (WINDALCO), a joint venture of Glencore Alumina Jamaica Ltd. and the Government of Jamaica.
Together, these projects deliver five million metric tonnes of ore annually from the Ewarton Mine and the Kirkvine Mine to the WINDALCO refineries, representing one-third of Jamaica's annual bauxite production.
Our work includes development of access roads to the mining areas, clearing and grubbing, mining and transporting the bauxite, grading of the mined pits for reclamation, and replacement of original topsoil on the reclaimed areas.
In addition, we have donated books and computers to improve the quality of education at local schools.
- Agrium Kapuskasing Phosphate Mine
We are executing a five-year contract to operate the Agrium Kapuskasing Phosphate Mine in northern Ontario, Canada. This open pit mine produces over 16 million tons of ore, clay, and waste annually. The project builds on the relationship we have established at Agrium’s southeastern Idaho phosphate operations in which we have been participating for decades.
Our contract includes overall mine operation, long-term planning, engineering and maintenance, human relations, training, safety and hygiene, and environmental regulatory compliance.
This operation is being conducted in Arctic-like conditions which typically last from early November to late April and can include temperatures as low as –56° Celsius, or –60° Fahrenheit.
- Pipestone Ballast Quarry
The Pipestone ballast quarry is part of our Conda Mining Operations near Butte, Montana. Our work includes mining, crushing and loading ballast for railroad tracks and yards. We have been the owner-operator of the mine since 1992 and provide materials for the Montana Rail Link and the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railroad. In 2005 we received the "Sentinel of Safety Award" from the Mine Safety and Health Administration's (MSHA) western district in recognition of our safe operations at the quarry.
