Awards & Highlights
Our reclamation efforts have earned acclaim from state, federal and international government agencies. Highlights of our performance include:
- Idaho Department of Lands Inter-Agency Reclamation Award for 2004 and 2006 for Rasmussen Ridge Mine, owned by Agrium CPO and operated by a subsidiary of Washington Division.
- 2003 Excellence in Reclamation Award from the New Mexico Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department for the De-Na-Zin reclamation project, the first full bond release on Native Indian lands.
- Texas Mining and Reclamation Association Award of Recognition for Outstanding Achievement in Special Projects. Awarded for restoration of drainage with wetlands at a lignite mine.
- U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement: Award nomination for Excellence in Surface Coal Mining and Reclamation for developing and implementing exemplary mining and reclamation technologies and practices in keeping with sound environmental conditions. This nomination regarded a particularly difficult procedure of injecting lime with a trencher.
- Our innovative approaches to reclamation have resulted in a savings of $50 million in cost reduction and productivity improvements on a uranium mill tailings reclamation project and $55 million savings through the development of a "phyto remediation bio-mix" for reclamation at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal.
- Our bauxite operation, Washington Group Jamaica Ltd., was recognized as having the best record in land reclamation and restoration by the Jamaican National Mineral Industry in 2006.
