About Fossil Fuels
We rank among the foremost designers and builders of the world’s coal-fired capacity, with over 200 coal-fired projects totaling more than 90,000 megawatts worldwide. We have designed and/or built more than 300 combustion turbine-generating units around the globe.
Our work in cutting-edge technologies includes a first-of-its-kind, coal-fueled, near-zero emissions electric power plant for the FutureGen Industrial Alliance— a public-private group representing the coal and power industry that is partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy.
We are a value-added partner in defining, designing, and implementing operating plant modifications and maintenance programs that reflect both technical proficiency and cost effectiveness. We are fully experienced in the complex range of fuels and integration of support systems that keep power facilities efficient and clean.
With the experience of 40,000 megawatts of flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) systems installed – more than any other contractor – 19,000 megawatts grassroots units, 21,000 megawatts of retrofit projects, plus evaluation and experience with all major suppliers, Washington Division brings flexibility and cost awareness to clean-air projects.
The fossil power markets we serve include:
- Clean Air Retrofits
- Coal
- Combustion Turbine
- Conventional Oil
- Waste-to-Energy
Our experience providing flexible services for varying configurations, manufacturers, and sites makes Washington Division the right partner for any new generation or modification opportunity.
Washington Division’s fossil power résumé includes several recent awards:
- Power Engineering magazine’s best gas-fired project in 2005 for We Power’s Port Washington Generating Station
- Excellence in Construction, by the Associated Builders and Contractors in 2005 for a Petroleum Coke Plant in Mississippi
Our expertise with all technologies and different types of coals/fuels makes us the right choice to help operators achieve the right path to compliance and operability as quickly and economically as possible.
