We serve the fossil and nuclear industry with a full array of modification and maintenance services. Our experience covers all state-of-the-art generation technologies, including:
- Critical/supercritical coal-fired and conventional boilers.
- Circulating fluidized bed.
- Simple and combined cycle combustion turbines.
- Nuclear generation in pressurized water reactor (PWR), boiling water reactor (BWR) and other commercial technologies.
We also specialize in major system retrofits. In the air pollution control market, we have been responsible for more installed FGD megawatts than any of our competitors and have experience with all major manufacturers for NOx, SO2, and particulate control systems, as well as options to respond to new mercury control regulations.
In the nuclear retrofit market, through our SGT joint venture with AREVA NP, we have executed numerous steam generator and reactor head replacements as well as many other life extension projects.
Air Pollution Control
With the industry-leading experience of 40,000 MW of FGD systems installed—19,000 MW grassroots units, and 21,000 MW retrofit projects—as well as evaluation and project experience with all major suppliers we bring flexibility and cost awareness to clean air projects. Nuclear Services
As Engineer/Constructor of over 35,000 MW of nuclear generation, having a talent base that has accomplished thousands of life extension modifications for over 100 operating units, plus a comprehensive and responsive maintenance program, we have shown strong commitment to the nuclear industry since its inception. SGT, our joint venture with AREVA NP, specializes in the demanding and complex tasks required to replace steam generators and reactor vessel heads. We also have comprehensive experience in decontamination and decommissioning.
Repowering
We provide the necessary services to help electric generating companies repower aging, inefficient, inactive or mothballed plants by installing new technology and equipment to meet current generating needs. Repowering itself is a wide-open field of engineering and construction imagination, ingenuity and flexibility. A repowering project may involve installing gas-fired combustion equipment to replace a conventional boiler in a coal-fired plant to increase overall plant electrical output.
The possibilities for repowering create intriguing technical challenges, such as fitting of new equipment into space designed for other equipment or incorporating up-to-date piping and electrical systems. We provide expertise in theses areas as well as material handling systems, environmental systems, and controls for older facilities.
