Project Overview
We are working under two, 10-year mining contracts with a combined value of $300 million for Jamaican alumina producer West Indies Alumina Company (WINDALCO), a joint venture of Glencore Alumina Jamaica Ltd. and the Government of Jamaica.
This mine produces one-third of Jamaica's annual bauxite production, which we deliver to the Kirkvine and Ewarton refineries.
Our work includes:
- Development of access roads to the mining areas
- Clearing and grubbing
- Mining and transport
- Grading of mined pits for reclamation
- Replacement of original topsoil on the reclaimed areas
Highlights & Accomplishments:
The mining is being performed to Jamaican and world standards of best practice and adheres to all applicable laws and regulations.
- Recognized as having the best record in land reclamation and restoration by the Jamaican National Mineral Industry in 2006.
- Received Minister's Cup for best safety practice.
- Through donations of books and computers, our staff is helping improve the quality of education for children in the communities where the mines operate.
