Agrium Kapuskasing Phosphate Mine

Project Location:

Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada

Client:

Agrium, Inc.

Scope:

Complete contract mining including mine planning, engineering, drilling, blasting, and mining of ore and waste.

Project Overview

In 2003, we began operating the Agrium Kapuskasing Phosphate Mine in a remote part of Ontario, Canada. In addition to excavating 16 million tons of ore, clay and waste annually, we provide and maintain the equipment.

Temperatures at the mine can fall to - 56° Celsius.

The mine produces some of the highest-grade phosphate ore in the world and has reserves to meet the needs of Agrium’s Canadian processing facility for the next two decades.

Highlights & Accomplishments:

  • Special attention is given to protecting employees and equipment from Artic-like conditions that last from early November through late April.
  • Despite the challenging conditions, mining operations proceed on schedule around the clock, seven days a week.
  • We seamlessly interface with Agrium site managers to make well-informed business decisions and conform to laws, regulations and industry standards.
  • Our managers and employees work closely with the Agrium managers to identify, assess and responsibly manage the project’s environmental, health and safety risks.
  • In 2006, Kapuskasing set new records for production.
