Project Overview
Washington Division provided program management, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning services for an award-winning air-quality-control upgrade project at We Energies' Pleasant Prairie Power Plant. The upgrade included the installation of two flue gas desulfurization systems and one selective catalytic reduction system at the two-unit plant.
In 2007 the project earned Power magazine's Top Plants Award in the coal-fired category. The award honors outstanding performers in the power generation industry. Unique design aspects of the project contributed to its selection as a Top Plant. For example, 3-D engineering design tools were used to create a virtual representation of the plant, allowing the project team to take a weekly "walk" through the design and make improvements prior to construction.
Technical Details
The Pleasant Prairie plant consists of two 617 MW pulverized coal fired units which burn Powder River Basin (PRB) coal. Washington Division's project included the installation of a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system on Unit 1 and a Limestone Forced Oxidation (LSFO) wet Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) system on Units 1 and 2.
Washington Division’s scope of services included:
- Overall Program Management responsibility for the FGD, SCR, and chimney contract management.
- Engineering and design associated with developing the detail design.
- Construction, construction management, and commissioning services necessary for commercial operation.
- Procurement services for all major equipment.
- Development, monitoring, and maintenance of overall project schedule.
- Engineering and installation of all balance of plant systems.
- Necessary permits to support construction of the project except the environmental permits acquired by We Energies.
- Complete project closeout support and documentation.
