About Safety

Safety is vital to out work as the Washington Division of URS Corporation.  Our commitment to safety has led to our standing as one of the safest workforces in the world.  Every day, our employees demonstrate market leadership in safe practices, an effort recognized throughout the industry and verified by third-parties.

Despite our 80 million hours of extremely challenging work, our days-away-from-work cases (< 0.1) are a fraction of the engineering and construction industry average as well as those of other industries.

We rely on experience, continuous training, and adherence to strict standards to ensure the safety of our employees, our partners, and our surrounding communities.

Among our accomplishments:

  • 95 percent of our projects completed with no lost-time injuries in 2006.
  • We have repeatedly ranked as one of America's Safest Companies.
  • We provide safety training for thousands of craft workers and subcontractors.
  • More than 70 percent of the nation's "Safety Trained Supervisors" are Washington Division employees.
  • We formed a groundbreaking "best practices" safety alliance agreement with OSHA.
  • We have received the Gold Awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA)*.

When it comes to safety, we go beyond using best practices; we create them.
