Project Safety Highlights - Infrastructure

Miami Toll Services, South Florida

Washington Division operates the Miami-Dade Expressway toll road system in south Florida.  Our staff has worked more than 800,000 hours without a days-away-from-work injury.

Toll plazas are staffed around the clock and have processed more than 200 million vehicles since the project began.

Among our highlights:

  • The management team implemented a new program that requires an annual audit of each plaza to ensure field compliance with standard operating procedures.
  • A three month renovation project was completed without injury.  This renovation included the demolition and construction of 67 percent of the toll lanes simultaneously while employees continued to operate the facility.

Ibn Sina Hospital, Baghdad, Iraq

Ibn Sina Hospital is located within Baghdad's “Green Zone.”  We provide general preventative and repair maintenance of all non-medical support systems, including generators, water pump storage tanks, sewer system tanks and electrical power distribution systems.

Among our highlights:

  • Our project team lowered staphylococcus infection rates from an unacceptably high level to lower than the US average.
  • Our 200 employees have completed more than two million hours of work without a days-away incident or injury. 

Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence, Baghdad

The scope of the AFCEE program includes engineering, procurement, renovation and construction of Iraqi schools, police stations, and military base facilities.  We employ 85 direct-hire and 850 subcontract workers.

  • Washington Group’s team working for the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) in Iraq completed more than 1.7 million hours without a days-away-from-work injury or incident.

Pacer Forge, Egypt

Washington Division provides construction, infrastructure, and operations and maintenance work on U.S. military-furnished systems at Egyptian Air Force bases. The work is taking part under a joint-venture contract with Contrack International for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Among our highlights:

  • We received 100 percent performance scores on all award fee criteria evaluated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
  • We have produced comprehensive safety-training materials in Arabic.

n 2006, our employees worked more than 1.72 million managed hours with a recordable injury for a rate of 0.13.
